Our History

Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity

Sigma Alpha Iota (SAI/ΣΑΙ) is an International Music Fraternity whose mission is to encourage, nurture, and support the art of music. As an organization, we strive to support women from all walks of life and to further the development of music in America and throughout the world.

SAI was founded on June 12, 1903 at the University School of Music, Ann Arbor, Michigan. Our national founders are Elizabeth Campbell, Frances Caspari, Minnie Davis Sherrill, Leila Farlin Laughlin, Nora Crane Hunt, Georgina Potts, and Mary Storrs Anderson.

The Theta Chi Chapter at the University of South Carolina

Collegiate chapters across the country are composed of women who share a passion for music and a drive to share that passion locally, regionally, and nationally.

Theta Chi (ΘΧ) was established on February 14th, 1999 at the University of South Carolina. Theta Chi is part of Region 6 and the Tau E province. Our chapter currently has over 30  members, representing a wide variety of academic majors at the University of South Carolina. We participate in and provide assistance to many School of Music events as well as passionately serve the Columbia community.
